James “Jim” Marker, 84, of Adel, Iowa passed away peacefully on Aug. 27, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center from complications of a stroke. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
Jim was born in Redfield, Iowa to Elizabeth Eben and Arthur Marker on Aug. 16, 1933, the fifth of seven children. He lived in the Redfield/Adel area all his life.
Jim was a military vet and was especially proud of his career as a heavy equipment operator. He got a lot of enjoyment from tinkering around in the garage with his John Deere tractors. He could often be seen at Patrick’s Restaurant visiting with his coffee buddies or sitting in front of his house on South 10th Street waving to everyone driving by!
He adored his family more than anything and loved spending time with his granddaughters. They were definitely his pride and joy. Referring to any one of the four girls, he could often be heard saying, “Boy! Isn’t she a dandy?” Jim never missed any of his granddaughters’ programs or birthday parties. Whether it was a holiday gathering, gymnastics program, dance recital, band concert, school play, softball game or even just a Target run.... Jim was right there, in the mix, with his family. They were his world.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, Chris Marker. He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Jorgensen (Kyle) of Adel; three granddaughters, Lydia and Ella Jorgensen; Ashley Forret (Travis) of Adel and 1 great granddaughter, Mylah Forret; two sisters, Marcia Campbell of Adel and Helen Durrant of Utah; and one brother, Donny Marker of Des Moines.
A memorial will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church in Adel, on Aug. 30, 2017
