Richard “Dick” Rutz - Waukee

Richard “Dick” Rutz, 78, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at HCI Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Waukee United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at the Waukee Cemetery.

Dick was born in Mason City, Iowa to Lionel and Margaret (Haberkamp) Rutz. He married Marilyn Simonson on June 2, 1962, in Siren, Wisconsin. They moved to Des Moines in 1963 and later to Waukee in 1973 where they raised their three children, Beth, Dan and Allan. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Dick worked the majority of his career at Northwestern Bell. He was also an active member in the Waukee Lions Club and the Waukee United Methodist Church. Dick enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as being an avid college sports fan.

Dick is survived by his children, Beth (Michael) McFee of Farmington, Minn., Dan (Lisa) Rutz of Earlham, Iowa, and Allan (Andrea) Rutz of Lewisburg, Penn.; his grandchildren, Nicole McFee, Michelle (Marc) Hanson, Grant (Shelby) Rutz, Blake Rutz, Brynna Rutz and Zachary Rutz; his great grandchildren, McKinley and Mara Hanson, and Lucy Rutz; his sibling Carol (Dave) Bakker of Renville, Minn. and his aunts Marilyn Miner of Waukee and Norma Rutz of Johnston. He was preceded in death by his parents and his precious wife, Marilyn.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Waukee United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be directed later. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
