Resided in Waukee, IABill Fox, 81, died peacefully Friday, February 8, 2013, at Edgewater Community in West Des Moines, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 11, at Waukee United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will follow at Waukee Cemetery.
Bill was born December 9, 1931, in Des Moines to John and Jessie (Mahon) Fox. He graduated from Waukee High School and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Following his service Bill earned his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University where he was member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He married Waneta Booker on May 23, 1952, and they moved to Waukee in 1954 where they raised their two daughters, Barbara and Linda. Bill took over the family farm which later became a Century Farm in 1999, retiring in 2001. He was Master Mason in the Masonic Delta Lodge #356 in Adel and a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Farm Bureau, Iowa Cattleman's Association and the Waukee COOP. Bill enjoyed his retirement at Edgewater Community where he made great friends and memories. He took great pride in watching his son-in-law and grandsons continue to work the family farm.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Gary) Goldizen of Urbandale and Linda (Bob) Manning of Granger; his grandchildren, Katie (Corey) Ireland of Waukee, Robb (Tiffany) Manning and Joe Manning, both of Granger, Stephen (Cindy) Goldizen of Glendale, AZ, and Jason (Tracy) Goldizen of Ottumwa; and his great grandchildren, Dylan Manning, Jack and Wilson Ireland, Ava, Alli and Anna Goldizen, and Logan and Colin Goldizen.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Waneta, his parents, his great-granddaughter, Madilynn Manning and his sister, Jean Morris.
