Services Held For Mrs. J. J. Smith

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning for Mrs. Mary Smith of Dexter at All Saints church at Stuart. Burial was at Booneville. Mrs. Smith was 75 years old and had been ill for six years. She was the mother of Joe Smith of Earlham; also two daughters who live in Van Meter.

Mary Frances Pray was born at Walnut, Iowa December 18, 1883 to Hugh and Anne Pray. There she attended rural schools near Walnut and grew to womanhood. In the year 1911 the family moved to Van Meter.

She was married to John Joseph Smith January 21, 1912 at the St. Boniface church at Waukee. This union was blessed with three children. In their later years they moved to their present home in Dexter.

She was a loving wife and mother and a good friend and neighbor. She passed away suddenly late Saturday night in the Dexter Clinic at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 7 days.

Services were held Tuesday morning, July 28, in the All Saints church at Stuart with high mass by Father John Reynolds. Interment was at Booneville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband, two daughters, Marie, now Mrs. Ted Lint of Van Meter, and Gertrude, now Mrs. Lawrence Spatz of Van Meter, and one son Joseph of Earlham; six grandchildren, Mrs. Mary Jane Allsup, Willie Smith, Daryl, Mervin, Marlene and John Spatz; two brothers and four sisters.

Casket bearers were Joe Smith Jr., Willis Smith, Larry Allsup, Daryl Spatz, Al Byrne and Frank Sherman.
