Funeral Last Friday For William O. Smith

William O. Smith, son of Eli and Sally M. Smith was born in Dallas County, Iowa, February 14, 1867. For forty years he resided in the Bear Creek community. After his mother’s death in 1882 he continued to live with his father and sister Amy on the home farm now the home of Will Weaver. In 1906 the farm was sold and the family moved to California.

A few years later he went to British East Africa where he was engaged in Missionary work for several years.

Due to failing health he returned to Iowa and for more than ten years he has been cared for at the Dallas County home where he passed away on November 27, 1946 at the age of almost eighty years.

Funeral services were held last Friday morning at 10:30 at the Bear Creek church conducted by Rev. Lawrence Sams. Alma Mapes and Gertrude Conrad sang two selections with Bernice Hadley pianist. Burial was in the Bear Creek cemetery.
