Darlene Elizabeth Workman was born on April 7, 1923 in Perry, IA to Benjamin H. and Sarah E. (Carpenter) Workman. She attended Perry Community High School and Broadlawns School Of Nursing in Des Moines, IA.On June 25, 1946 she was united in marriage to Bernard J. Nolan at the First Christian Church in Perry, IA. They became parents to Pamela, Larry, and Gordon.Darlene was a member of the First Christian Church in Perry. Like her parents, faith in church and family were a very important part of her life. She was very active in high school, participating in drama and sports. She enjoyed golf, bridge, traveling, gardening, bowling, and dancing. She was a long time member of Eastern Star and Delta Sigma Chi. Darlene and Bud took many trips with family and friends traveling and entertaining as well as an annual boat trip with a group of friends.She worked as a registered nurse at the Dallas County Hospital and Perry Manor Health Center. She retired in 1983. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and advocating for nursing home residents.She is survived by her three children, Pamela Nolan Thomsen of Sun City, AZ, Larry, and Gordon Nolan of Perry, IA., and a grandson, Wil Pantier, Jr. of West Des Moines, IA.Preceding in death are her parents, Ben and Sarah Workman, her siblings: Berneice, Robert, Benjamin, and Duane.Darlene Nolan, age 89 of Perry, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013, at her home in Perry. Visitation will be on Friday, February 22, at from 1 to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry, IA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Perry, IA.
