Mrs. Helen M. Gebhart passed away at the Lutheran hospital at Des Moines on Tuesday, September 22, 1936. The funeral was held at the home of her sister, Mrs. Loren Dunbar of De Soto, Iowa, and was conducted by the Rev. C. F. Hand, pastor of the Methodist church of Van Meter, Iowa. Music was furnished by Rev. and Mrs. Hand, the hymns “Have thine own way, Lord: and “My Faith Looks up to Thee” being used. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery at Dows, Iowa, where the burial service was conducted by the Rev. R. A. Brough, pastor of the Presbyterian church.

Helen Mitchel Gebhart was born March 3, 1870, near Henderson, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood. On February 24, 1892 she was united in marriage to Richard D. Gebhart. For a few years after her marriage she lived near Galesburg, Illinois. In 1896 she moved with her family to Iowa and for the past forty years has lived in different communities in Iowa.

Since the death of her husband on February 1926, Mrs. Gebhart gave a great deal of her time to the care of the sick, a service which she loved to render and in which se was most proficient. She was so cheerful, sympathetic and kind that all who knew her loved her and will cherish the memory of her loving service.

Mrs. Gebhart was a true Christian in every sense of the word. She lived her religion earnestly and with true loyalty to her Lord and Master. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Loren Dunbar of De Soto, Iowa, and by two sons, James W. Gebhart of Jefferson, Iowa, and Richard D. Gebhart of Carlisle, Iowa. A son, Chauncy H. died at the age of 16 and a daughter, Maggie Irene died in infancy. She is also survived by many nieces, grandnieces and nephews.
