Arlene Joan Cron, 82, a long-time DeSoto resident went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2013.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, at the DeSoto United Methodist Church.

Arlene will be laid to rest with the cremains of her beloved husband of 55 years, Fletcher, at Oakland Cemetery in DeSoto, in accordance with their wishes. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the DeSoto United Methodist Church.

Arlene was born June 24, 1930, and raised on a farm near Adel. She graduated from DeSoto Consolidated High School in 1949. She married the love of her life, Olan Fletcher Cron, on April 27, 1952. This union was blessed with two daughters, Cynthia Ann and Brenda Lee.

Arlene dedicated her life to serving the Lord as an active church member and Sunday school teacher; serving her community as historian, library board member, school district board member, election official, and 4-H leader; and serving her family with compassion, patience, and forgiveness.

Arlene was gifted with many talents: cooking, baking, cake decorating, painting, sewing, and quilting to name just a few. She enjoyed traveling, watching her children and grandchildren perform, and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

In addition to her husband, Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Galen E. and Eva E. Hoy; her sister, Beverly A. Harvey; and son-in-law, John M. Romeo, Sr.

Arlene is survived by her daughters, Cynthia A. Romeo and Brenda L. (Dennis) Schuring; one granddaughter, Tamara J. (Chas) Jones; one grandson, Benjamin L. Schuring; one great-grandson, Jorel N. Jones; one brother, Terry E (Linda) Hoy; one sister, Galynne E. (Bill) Chapman; and numerous extended family members whom she loved dearly.

Her family wants to extend their sincerest heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Adel Acres Care Center for making the past five and a half years a special time in Arlene's journey through life. ~ The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa 5 Mar 2013.
