Betty Pierce, 86, of 1411 Monona Street in Boone, passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Friday morning, Marcy 1, 2013.

She was born on June 6, 1926, in Perry, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Edith (Workman) Palmer.

Betty married Kenneth Johnson and to this union they had a son, Kenneth Dean Johnson. The couple later divorced. On June 27, 1955, she married Clark "Blackie" Pierce. Blackie and Betty were blessed with a daughter, Karla on December 21, 1961.

She worked at Priebes in Perry. After the couple moved to Boone in 1964, Betty worked at Ralston Purina Egg Processing Plant and was a presser at the North Side Cleaners and later at Hawkeye Laundry for a many years. Betty also worked at Archway Cookies and sold Avon products. During her free time, she enjoyed her grandsons and attending their school events, traveling to the Meskwaki Casino, and most of all, loved to bowl.

Her parents; husband, Clark in May of 2009; son, Kenneth Dean Johnson; and sister, Hazel, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Karla Snyder and friend, Chris Magnani of Boone; two grandsons, Blaine and Tyler Snyder both of Boone; a sister, Ruth Schwanebeck of Knoxville, Iowa; a brother, John W. Palmer of Perry, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Jean Pierce of Linden, Iowa and Phyllis Pierce of Knoxville, Iowa; former son-in-law, Scot Snyder of Boone; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday morning, March 6 at 10 a.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Pastor Daniel Solomon officiating.

Interment will be in the Squire Boone Cemetery southeast of Boone.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Visitations will continue at the Chapel on Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family.
