Doris Hawbaker, 93, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grimes, of which she was a member for over 50 years. Burial will follow services at Sunny Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Doris was born on October 1, 1913 in Grimes, the daughter of Edwin and Catherine (Grinnell) Bauman. She graduated from Johnston High School and AIB. On December 17, 1943, she married Frank Hawbaker at the Bauman home in Grimes. Frank was killed on June 28, 1944 in Italy during World War II.

Doris is survived by one sister, Edna (Earl) Bartelt of Grimes, her niece Colene Townsend of Grimes and a great niece Angela E. Bartelt of Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Mildred Bauman and nephew, Roger Bartelt.

Doris worked at the US Property Fiscal Office at Camp Dodge from 1940 until her retirement in 1967. She enjoyed sewing, china painting, ceramics, coin collecting and spending time with her family.
