John Thomas Long was born in Darke county, Ohio, Aug. 17, 1855, died at North Yakima, Wash., May 24, 1909, aged 53 years, 10 months and seven days.

He with his parents came to Dallas county in 1857 where the family homestead still remains. He was married in 1882 to Mrs. Matilda Longmire at Des Moines, who died Feb. 5, 1905.

For some years his health has been failing, but for the last six months a complication of chronic diseases have been rapidly bringing him to the grave.

On March 22 he, with his brother Eb Long, started to Wash., where he remained till the time of his death.

He never united with any church, but was raised under the Presbyterian influence.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and Masonic orders.

Two sisters, Mrs. A. F. McQuie of Minburn, Ia., and Mrs. J. T. Long of DeSoto, Ia., and two brothers, Eb Long of North Yakima, Wash. And Chas Long of DeSoto survive.

The funeral was held from the Church of Christ at DeSoto, Sunday May 30, 1909. Sermon was preached by Rev. A. E. Fouch. I.O.O.F. lodge had charge of the service at Oakland cemetery, the last resting place of the dearly beloved brother and friend.
