Mrs. Leah Brown Adams was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, May 5, 1834 and died in Des Moines February 22, 1908. She was married to Rev. T. D. Adams at Van Meter May 19, 1869. Her husband died fourteen years ago. He was an able and eloquent preacher and a good writer. To him she was a good helper in his avocation. In her earlier life appears the heroic and patriotic. She served three months in Andersonville and Libby prisons during the civil war, having been captured while waiting on her soldier brother. Her home for many years has been at Toledo, Iowa.

Besides funeral services in Des Moines a short service was held at DeSoto, followed by interment in the Ellis cemetery.

Among the relatives present were her brother, David Brown of Toledo, his sister, Mrs. Sadie Adams of DeSoto, and Mrs. I.N. Norman and family and Mrs. George Smith and husband and daughter of Madison county, Mrs. Leveridge of Des Moines, Geo. Hodson, Kate Hodson, Mrs. Bilderback and others. She was a Christian and inherits the christian’s rest.
