Constance "Connie" G. Crowl, 72, died peacefully at Mercy Hospice in Johnston surrounded by her family after a harrowing battle with encephalopathy, for which the cause remains essentially unclear. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial in West Linn Cemetery near Linden. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday and family will greet friends 2 to 4 p.m. with a prayer service at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Connie was born January 12, 1940 to Bill and Coral (Coffin) Lenze, near Earlham, where she also grew up. She married Bob Crowl August 10, 1968. Connie graduated from Des Moines School of Practical Nursing in 1970.
Connie was a dedicated nurse and worked a majority of her practice in the area of geriatrics. She thoroughly enjoyed life with a fun loving spirit. She loved being around her family and friends, fixing food and helping people. In the spring she loved to smell the abundance of flowers she and Bob planned and planted in their various gardens. In the winter months she enjoyed watching birds and most of all loved and cherished her Christmas Eves spent with her family. Connie was a member of the Redfield United Methodist Church and the Redfield American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband Bob of Redfield; children, Teresa (Nick) Nolan of Redfield, Tami (Mike) Hoyt of Waukee, Jen Crowl of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Lacey (Brad) Reynolds, Andy (Candace) Nolan, Kyle Hoyt, and Jordan Hoyt and two great grandsons, as well as her mother, Coral Lenze of Adel and brother Melvin (Ruby) Lenze of Adel. She was preceded in death by her son, Tom; father; two brothers and one sister.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or the family to purchase a memorial brick for Connie in the healing garden there.
