Elmer "Keith" Schrader, 82, originally from Sigourney died November 24 from complications of long standing diabetes. He had lived in Perry the past six years, before recently going to the Stratford, Iowa nursing home for care.

Keith was raised on a farm six miles east of Sigourney. He served in the Navy in World War II at age 18 and then in the Korean War in 1952. He developed several businesses in Sigourney over 20 years. Keith was a 50-year member of the Masons in Sigourney, the Consistory in Cedar Rapids and the KAABA Shrine in Davenport.

Over the years he passed on many words of wisdom including, "There's no such word as can't," and "Don't tell everything you know to people that you don't know."

He was preceded in death by two of his siblings, Robert Schrader and Jean Hime and has a brother Herbert in New Mexico. He is survived by his wife Lourena in Perry, a son Tony Schrader of Round Rock, Texas and a daughter Jane Schrader of West Des Moines.
