Earlham Echo – October 27, 1966
Obituary
Alfred Standing was born in Chapel Hill, Chester County, England on March 27, 1869 and departed this life on October 18, 1966 at the age of 97 years.
His parents came to America when he was eleven months old and settled on a farm north of Earlham which has been Alfred’s home ever since.
There were many hardships for this pioneer family, but the six brothers also shared many interesting experiences and all had a special love of flowers and growing things. Their parents instilled in them a love for reading, an appreciation of the best thins in life and a true Christian faith.
In 1900 Alfred married Alice L. Crew and they were privileged to spend more than 52 years together before she preceded him in death in 1952. He was a minister in the Society of Friends, of which he was a life-long member. His amazing ability to memorize and repeat poems and Bible passages has been a comfort and inspiration to his family and friends.
He is survived by his three children—Miriam, Eleanor and husband, Lawrence Hutzell, Gordon and wife, Marie; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; also one brother Josiah of Beaumont, California, and many other relatives.
The goodness of his life has blessed us all.
