Betty Mardell Lenocker
March 28, 1922 - December 4, 2003

Betty Mardell, the fifth of nine children of William and Abbie McMenamin, was born March 28, 1922, in Dexter, Iowa, and passed away on December 4, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Betty grew up in Dexter and graduated from Dexter High School in 1939. She loved playing girls basketball and was known to be a "feisty" player.

On February 26, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Ray "Bud" Lenocker in Stuart, Iowa. They spent their married life together farming until their retirement in 1979. Betty and Bud celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997.

Three children blessed their marriage, Mary Ann Peer of Des Moines, Susan Clark (and husband Rod) of Adel, and Sandy Henderson (and husband Doug) of Marion.

Betty was a member of the Dexter Methodist Church. After their retirement from farming, she worked at the Dexter Dairy Sweet, Dexter Cafe, and Drew's Candy Kitchen. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was loved by many friends and family. She never complained and had such a compassionate nature, always putting everyone else first.

Survivors besides her husband and children include 5 grandchildren, Brent Belding ( and wife Suzanne), Troy Apple (and wife Carmen), Craig Peer (and wife Robin), Brad Belding and Tami Rice (and husband Roy); 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren and Dawson Peer, Abby Armstrong and Dallas Apple, Zack, Austin and Tyler Rice, Derek, Erika, and Erin Belding; one sister Doris Lynch; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Bob, Jim, Jack and Frank, and 3 sisters, Gladys, Mary and Mildred. Memorials may be directed to her church or Dexter First Responders.

Burial was in the Penn Center cemetery.
