Carl Erne Died in Omaha (1856 – 1926)

The community was surprised and shocked Thursday when word came that Carl Erne had passed away in a hospital in Omaha. Mr. Erne had been in the hospital for 7 weeks and had had every possible thing done for him but it was of no avail and the death angel gave the last summons at 12:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Erne had reached the age of 69 years 8 months and 5 days. He was born in Germany in 1856 and came to the United States in 1872, settling at Allentown, Pa., where he stayed 6 years, then moving to Clinton county Iowa, where he was married to Elizabeth Maier. They then moved to Buffalo county, Nebraska and lived six years, coming to Crawford county in 1884 and lived there until 1920 when they moved to Omaha where he stayed until the time of his death. Besides his faithful and loving wife, he leaves to mourn his death, five daughters, Mrs. Wm. Neumann of Kiron, Mrs. George Schultz of Denison, Mrs. A. Grummer, Mrs. Ben Loeck and Miss Elizabeth Erne all of Omaha and two sons, John and Carl Erne of Omaha.

The body was brought back here for burial, from the farm home east of Kiron, where his daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. and Mr. Will Neuman live. The last services were held by the pastor of the Stockholm German church, Rev. O. Richter, Monday afternoon and the body laid to rest in the cemetery there. The family have the sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement.
