RESIDENT OF COUNTY OVER FIFTY YEARS

Lars P. Eng, pioneer resident of Ida County died at his home in Hayes township Sunday 4 August 1935. He was in his ninety-fifth year and had been quite feeble for several years and bedfast most of the time the past two years.

Mr. Eng was born in Sweden and came to this country in 1882. Residing one year near Early, Iowa and the remaining time in the community south of Arthur in Hayes township. He was united in marriage to Anna Lisa Pearson 13 Nov 1866 and through hard work and thrift they became the owner of the farm where he continued to live until his death. Mrs. Eng preceeded him in death on 2 December 1933, just 19 days after they had observed their 67th wedding anniversary.

Funeral services were held in the Arthur Baptist church Wednesday afternoon.

Lars P. Eng died at his home in Hayes township Sunday 4 Aug 1935 having reached the age of 93 years and 10 days. He was born 24 July 1842 in Salby, Skaraborgs, Lan, Sweden. He came to America in 1882, his family coming two years later. On 13 November 1866 he was united in marriage to Anna Liza Pearson in his native land. To this union was born ten children, of whom four are living, Otto and Alfred of Ida County, Mrs. Lena Carlberg of Storm Lake, and Mrs. Ellen Beecroft of Los Angeles, Cal. His wife passed away in 1933. He also leaves 32 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

With the exception of one year, spent near Early upon their arrival in this country, Mr. and Mrs. Eng spent their entire life in America in Hayes township. Together with his wife they labored faithfully for a home for their family, enduring many trials and hardships. At the time his wife passed away they had shared 67 years of wedded bliss.

Mr. Eng was a man whose word could be depended on, upright and just in all his dealings. He was converted shortly after their arrival in this country and they affiliated with the Odebolt Mission church where he remained a faithful member until his death. Of late years his health and age kept him from attending services.

Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon and from the Arthur Baptist church at 2 o'clock. Rev. H. A. Faugerstrom of Kiron, conducted the services. Burial was made in the Hayes township cemetery. The pall bearers were six grandsons, Carl and Harry Eng, Leslie, Levi and Roy Carlberg and Wilmer Ang.
