Andrew Jensen Gregersen was born near Vindblaas, Denmark Jan. 20, 1833, and died at his home in Defiance, May 31, 1918, aged 85 years, 4 months and 8 days. He was one of a family of five, four sons and one daughter, of whom perhaps one brother is living in Denmark. Mr. Gregerson was married to Mette Jensen in 1862 and to this union were four children, of whom three died in infancy, Jens J. Gregerson of Defiance being the only one surviving. Mrs. Gregerson died in 1869 and Mr. Gregerson was married to Mariane Nielsen, Nov. 9, 1870. Born to this union union three children were Mrs. Peter Jensen, Defiance; Mrs. Anna Christensen, Atlantic; and Nels J. Gregerson, Defiance. Mr. and Mrs. Gregerson came to America and settled two miles south of Defiance in June, 1887, arriving in Harlan thirty-one years ago, June 2d. They lived on this farm until 1901 when they retired and moved to Defiance where they have since resided. Mr. Gregerson was confirmed in the Lutheran church as a boy and always retained his membership. He never enjoyed rugged health and for two or three years past he only occasionally went up town. For about two months he was confined to his bed and suffered much. He was a kind and loving husband and father. He passed nearly 48 years with the wife who survives him and their life was happy and pleasant.
