Earl Paul Knop 1928 - 2014

Earl Paul Knop was born, September 16, 1928, to Paul and Catherine (Claussen) Knop, at Battle Creek, Iowa. He died August 27, 2014 in Lincoln, NE. He grew up, was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, Iowa. Earl attended grade school in Ricketts, Iowa. He graduated from Charter Oak High School. Following graduation, he helped his father in his trucking business.

On August 15, 1948, he married Helen Blum at Trinity Lutheran Church, Murdock, Nebraska, and to this union was born three children; Gary, Nancy, and Vickie. They lived and worked in the Murdock area for 50 years, owning and operating E & H Service Station and E & H grain hauling. Earl was a member of Murdock Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years, serving a term as Fire Chief. He served on the Murdock Village Board as Chairman and was a founding member of the Ashland Country Club and Golf Course. His passion for golf, travel and water sports took them to Arizona, California, and Lake of the Ozarks for many vacations. After retiring, they moved to Syracuse, Nebraska.

He is survived by Helen, his wife of 66 years, son Gary (Donnita), of Wichita Falls, Texas, daughters Nancy (Mike) Bennett, of Arvada, Colorado, and Vickie Piner, of Happy, Texas, three grandchildren, two step grandsons, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, one brother Richard (Evelyn) Knop, of Lake View, Iowa, and special friends Lyle (Mary) Wendt and many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Sat. Aug. 30 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 36712 Church Rd. Louisville, NE.

Visitation will be held Fri. Aug. 29 from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse at 644 Park St.
