LuVerne Frances Mesenbrink Brodersen 1923 - 1991

LuVerne Frances Brodersen was born Oct. 8, 1923, to Mattie and Walter Mesenbrink at their farm in East Boyer Township. She was baptized by Rev. William Frese at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on Nov. 4, 1923. On March 1, 1924, the family moved to rural Charter Oak where LuVerne grew up. She attended Willow No. 3 school, was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church on April 10, 1938, by Rev. W.P. Schroeder, and graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1941. She then taught in area rural schools, worked for Roscoe's Jewelry Store in Denison and for the F.B.I. in Washington D.C.

On Feb. 16, 1947, she was married to Vernon Brodersen at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. To this union, six children were born. Vernon and LuVerne farmed for five years in the Manilla area and for the past 40 years northwest of Denison in Hanover Township. In 1971, they moved to their present home in Denison. LuVerne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. She loved farming, swimming, and spending time talking with her many neighbors, friends, and relatives. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Society.

After an extended illness, LuVerne died at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., on July 23, 1991 at the age of 67 years, 9 months, and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Mesenbrink, and her brother, Galen Mesenbrink.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon of Denison; her father, Walter Mesenbrink of Denison; her six children: Cynthia and husband, Craig Corrie of Olympia, Wash., Bonnie and husband, Eugene Robbins of Ashland, Ore., Cheryl and husband, Basant Patnaik of Rock Hill, S.C., Colette and Barbara of Iowa City, and Craig of Denison; two sisters, Delores Schaefer of Three Forks, Mont., and Donna Nelson of Denison; and seven grandchildren: Christopher, Sarah, Rachel, Sangina, Emily, Brij and Sarita.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, with Pastor Kurt Kaiser and Pastor Philip Bloch officiating the service and the graveside rites at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for Henry Henningsen's solos of ""How Great Thou Art"" and ""The Lord's Prayer,"" and the congregational hymns ""What a Friend We Have in Jesus"" and ""Abide with Me."" Pallbearers were: David Mesenbrink, Larry Mesenbrink, Roger Brodersen, Barry Kuhlmann, Larry Brodersen and Les Brown. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home of Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
