Arlene D. Schroeder 1924 - 2000

Arlene D. Schroeder was born April 13, 1924, the daughter of Henry and Dorothy Jahde Schroeder. She died at the Dunlap Care in Dunlap, Iowa, Saturday, bruary 26, 2000, at the age of seventy-five.

Arlene was born on a farm near Schleswig, Iowa and began her education in a rural school near her home. In the early thirties, her family moved to Charter Oak where she continued her education, graduating from the Charter Oak High School with the class of 1940. She subsequently studied nursing for two years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

After completing her education, Arlene was united in marriage to Wilfred Schroeder, January 31, 1945, in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple settled on a farm west of Charter Oak for a few years before moving to a farm two miles east of Charter Oak. This union was blessed with five children.

In her leisure time, Arlene enjoyed fishing in area ponds and lakes, especially at Spirit Lake; socializing with her family and friends at a game of cards, reading and was an especially good cook and baker. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arthur, Lowell and Arlo; and one brother-in-law, Leonard Reinbold.

Survivors include hex-husband, Wilfred of Charter Oak; three sons, Michael and his wife, Sandra of Coralville, Iowa, Mark of Cedar Rapids and Steven of Minden; two daughters, Lori Heath and her husband, Ben and Denise Wooten and her husband, Garrett, all of Omaha; five grandchildren; and one sister, Vonis Reinbold of Mapleton.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, bruary 28, 2000, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Edgar Bode officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran , Church Cemetery, Charter Oak. Organist, Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, ""How Great Thou Art"", ""I'm But A Stranger Here"" and ""Amazing Grace, How Sweet The Sound"". Pallbearers were Steve Schroeder, Valgene Kruse, Garrett Wooten, Larry Ketelsen, David Stewart and Ben Heath. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.
