DEATH OF CLAUS HAGGE
West Side Journal-Last Friday morning, March 27, occurred the death of Mr. Claus Hagge at the home of his son, Herman, in Hayes Township. His health had been failing for the past several months and the release, that we are wont to call death but which to him meant fullness of life and eternal bliss, came with the dawn of day.
Mr. Hagge was born in Holstein, Germany, in 1823. In 1866 he came to America and settled at Clinton, Iowa. That same year he was married to Elsabe Voss and they resided there until 1871 when they came to Crawford Coiunty and settled on the farm were his son now resides. In 1895 they moved to Manning which has since been his home. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Aneorge of Manning; his remains were laid to rest in the Hayes Township cemetery by the side of his beloved wife who preceded him to that home above about two years ago.
He leaves to mourn his loss one son, Herman Hagge; two daughters, Mrs. Dwight Patton of Manning and Mrs. Alex Hannemann of West Side, and one sister Mrs. Margaret Knepper of Marengo, Iowa.
Mr. Hagge was a kind and loving father and a man of strong Christian charactera nd there will be a vacant place the hearts of thosw who knew him.
