Swan Johnson, whose health has failed him the past summer, passed away at the University Hospital in Iowa City, at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct 31st, where he had been a patient the past five weeks. His devoted wife, and daughter, Lillian, have constantly been with him there, and the son, Le Roy, as much as he could be away from the work at home. Mr. Johnson suffered intensely the last weeks in spite of all efforts to reliebe him of pain. Swen Johnson was born in Osby, (Skåne,) Sweden, on Jan. 13, 1874. He came to America when 14 years old, coming first to Craig, Nebraska then to Crawford county in 1894 and in 1920 he moved to his farm in Wheeler township, two miles north and two miles east of Kiron, which has been his home since. On November 15, 1911 he was united in marriage to Miss Selma Peterson at Denison. One daughter and one son, Lillian and Le Roy, both at home, who, together with the bereaved wife, mourn his going. He also leaves a brother, Harold Johnson, of Ida Grove, one sister, Mrs. Emma Johnson, of Minneapolis, and one brother and one sister in Sweden, one sister, Mrs. Pete Swanson, formerly of this locality, preceded him in death. He leaves many other relatives and hosts of friends. Mr. Johnson was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Sweden and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Swaberg, Nebr. Upon his residence in Crawford county he became affiliated with the Bethel Lutheran church of Kiron in 1910 where he has been a faithful member and untiring worker up to the time of his death. In this church he has served as deacon, trustee, treasured and other offices. Up to the time of his illness he was a regular atendant at services. He was keenly interested in the welfare of his family and those about him, always willing to give a lending hand. Funeral services are being held this Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home and 2:00 o'clock from the Bethel Lutheran church, Rev. Herbert N. Johnson officiating. Mr. Johnson had reached the age of 63 years, 9 months and 18 days. He will be keenly missed by his family and his many friends and in the church. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery.
