Ethel, age 93, passed away February 14, in her sleep. She was born January 24, 1920 in Manilla, IA to Minnie and August Gruhn. She had 5 brothers and a sister, who all preceded her in death. Ethel met her husband Leo Seib while going to business school in Omaha, NE. They married in 1940 and had 5 children. Ethel was very busy in her business and volunteer work. She was president of the Easter Seals of greater Des Moines, president of the Dowling Guild, and she was the founder of the annual Dowling fund raiser, "The Pancake Breakfast". She also served as president of APWA and BPW. She was a member of the Basilica of St. John, the Rosary Society and Catholic Women's League. Her love of work started with Luzier Cosmetics, where she was a sales associate, then area manager. In 1948, the president of Luzier asked her and Leo to become the district managers for the state of Iowa. She worked into her 90's, retiring in June of 2012 after 66 years of service to this company.Survivors include her children, Norman (Joanie) Seib of Waukee, Margaret (Phill) Carpenter of Aptos, CA, and Jean Seib of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Leo; daughter, May Lee Kinney; and son, Thomas. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, February 22 at Caldwell Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23 at the Basilica of St. John, 1915 University Ave. Interment will follow in the Glendale Cemetery.
