Leo J. Clinton, the son of Charles and Ellen Sullivan Clinton was born in Denver, Colorado, December 9, 1924. The family made their home at Buck Grove, Iowa, where he attended the country school before graduating from the Denison High School with the class of 1943.
During World War II, from August of 1943 until his discharge in May of 1946, Leo served his country in the United States Navy in the South Pacific.
Following his discharge he returned to Denison and went to work for Floyd Page in the Page and Nash Law Firm. In 1947, Leo began his 43 year banking career for the First National Bank, now Wells Fargo Bank, from which he retired as Cashier and Assistant Vice-President January 31, 1990.
For many years Leo volunteered for the Denison Little League organization and, in the summers, worked at the Iowa State Fair. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling and atteding all the University of Iowa football games.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison where he assisted with Bingo and funeral lunches, American Legion Post 8, and the Ninus L. Hunt V.F.W. Post 2504.
In January of 2008 Leo moved to the Reed House in Denison where he reside until entering Eventide Lutheran home January 26, 2010.
Leo died early Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at Eventide. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 85 years, 2 months and 7days.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ellen Clinton.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include friends and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison with Father Timothy Friedrichsen as Celebrant. Others participating in the Mass included Servers: Casey Eiten and Zulema Medrano; Lector: Carolyn Von Tersch; and Eucharistic Ministers: Nora Millea and Larry and Becky Schwarte. Music for the Mass was provided by St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing "Be Not Afraid:, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand", You are Mine" and "On Eagles Wings" with Jean Cornelius serving as organist. Pallbearers and Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Following the interment all were invited to return to the Parish Hall for kfellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com, Denison, Iowa was in charge of arrangements where a Legion of Mary Rosary was prayed at 5:00p..m. Friday, february 19, 2010.
