Richard "Dick" Schneider was born October 8, 1938, the son of William and Ruth Lakers Schneider. He died Saturday, November 3, 2007, in Denison, Iowa, at the age of sixty-nine.

Dick was born in Denison, Iowa and received his education at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Denison and Denison Community High School. On February 26, 1957, Dick entered the United States Navy and served honorably as an electrician until February 23, 1961. On the night that he returned home, he met Mary Sextro.

On May 30, 1964, Dick was united in marriage to Mary Sextro at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning, Iowa. The couple made their home in Omaha, later moving to Denison, and were blessed with five children.

He was a highly-regarded 1st Class (FCC) Electronics Technician?one of the few in the State of Iowa. In 1974, Dick and Mary moved to Denison where he owned and operated Specialized TV until his retirement in 2006.

He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, playing pool and cards, snow skiing and music--especially Irish music. He was enthusiastic about his work, quick-witted and devoted to his customers. His faith was very important to him. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, the VFW, and Isaac Walton League.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Denison; his children Darcy Moeller and her husband, Dave of Indianola, Iowa (Carsten and Dan); Heath Schneider and his wife, Laura Jebe of Las Vegas, Nevada; Michele Starkenburg and her husband, Loren of Ankeny, Iowa (Daken and Shayla); Wendy Schneider and Brian Truitt of Dunlap, Iowa (Conner, Dawson and Logan); and Jason Schneider and his wife, Idunn of Seattle, Washington (Ida and Edward).

His siblings Robert Schneider and his wife, Dee of Wentzville, Missouri; Bill Schneider and his wife, Jane of Wildwood, Missouri; Jim Schneider of Clayton, North Carolina; Jacki Anthony and her husband, Randy of Denison; and Shawn Lamaak and her husband, Virgil of Charter Oak. In-laws Shirley Robertson and her husband, Larry of Lake View, Iowa; Darlene Hjuler and her husband, Don of Audubon, Iowa; Pat Larson and her husband, Ron of Colorado; Dave Sextro and his wife, Ann of Belmond, Iowa; Phil Sextro and his wife, Lois of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Becky Rasmussen and her husband, Bill of Omaha, Nebraska; as well as several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. Fr. Paul Kelly served as Celebrant of the Mass. Sherri Freml provided accompaniment for soloist Cathy Friedrichsen; Conner Truitt and Daken Starkenburg served as Readers; Shayla Starkenburg and Carsten and Dan Moeller served as Giftbearers; Melissa Lewis and Jennifer Schneider served as Eucharistic Ministers; and Aimee Fredericksen and Samantha Pick were Altar Servers. Those serving as Pallbearers were Lynn Hast, Larry Robertson, Jim Schaben, Larry Stone, John Wrobble, and Frank Zimmer. Tuesday Prayer Services included a Legion of Mary Rosary at 4:30 p.m., led by Wayne Zitzlsperger, and a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8 and V.F.W. Post 2504 of Denison. The family invited everyone in attendance to the St. Rose of Lima Parish Center for fellowship and lunch served by the Altar Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
