Leonard W. Kruse, age 83, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Saturday, October 27, 2007, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2007, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Rod Dunker will officiate, with burial at 2:00 p.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mapleton, Iowa. Friends may call at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. There will be a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. Online condolences may be directed to www.christensenhuffman.com.

Born September 26, 1924, on a farm west of Mapleton, Iowa, Leonard William Kruse was the son of Willie J. and Josephine (Waderick) Kruse. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on October 25, 1926, and on April 2, 1939, was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. He attended country school in Monona County, then furthered his education at Soldier, Iowa.

On September 15, 1946, Leonard was united in marriage to Evelyn P. Jennings at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children, William, Daryl, and Anna Mae. Leonard farmed for over 40 years in Soldier, Charter Oak, and Ida Grove, Iowa. They rented land until 1975, then purchased a 240-acre farm south of Ida Grove. Leonard retired in 1988, and he and Evelyn moved into Ida Grove in 1990.

Leonard enjoyed antique cars and drove them in many parades and car shows. He overhauled antique tractors and collected wrenches and other antiques. He and Evelyn were members of the Sleepy Eye Pottery Club and enjoyed attending their shows and conventions. They also spent many happy hours square dancing and polka dancing.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; three children, William (Kathleen) Kruse of Underwood, Daryl Kruse of Red Oak, and Anna Mae (Pastor Paul) Warnier of Browns Valley, MN; six grandchildren, Brian Kruse, Julie Kruse and fiancé Brian Gould, Aaron (Cheryl) Theno Warnier, Andrea Kruse, Christina Warnier, and Lindsey Kruse; a great-granddaughter, Alexis Comstock; two sisters, Marie Ronk of Dunlap, and Helene Bumsted of Ute; a sister-in-law, Katherine Kruse of Soldier; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, August and wife Alvina Kruse, Raymond Kruse, and Floyd and wife Patricia Kruse; and two brothers-in-law, Elwin Ronk and Lloyd Bumsted.
