Virginia Blume was born March 5, 1919, the daughter of William Albert and Edna Rosemond Girard Blume. She died Monday, October 1, 2007 at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of eighty-eight.

Virginia was born on a farm near Dow City, Iowa, and received her education in Des Moines, Iowa. She helped her family for several years and lived with her mother until she died in 1964. She collected stuffed animals and beads, and enjoyed playing bingo, watching TV, and socializing with her friends at the Glenwood, Shelby, and Dunlap nursing homes. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her nieces and nephews, and going to Wal-Mart with her fellow residents at the care centers. She was a loving and caring daughter, sister and aunt who loved her family with sincere affection.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty Miller in 1999 and her husband, Bernard; and her brother, Joe Blume in 2006. She is survived by her brother Bill Blume and his wife, Raydene of Storm Lake, Iowa; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Pastor Carla Johnsen officiated the service and grave side rites held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Organist Marilyn Jepsen provided accompaniment for the congregational hymns "In the Garden," "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," and "Jesus Loves Me." Those serving as Pallbearers were Travis Blackman, Barry Blackman, Ivan Malone, Jeff Blume, Tony Blackman, Butch Miller, Neal Johnson, and Dan Blume. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them at the Dunlap Senior Center for fellowship and lunch served by the Senior Center. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
