Erma Lucille Wingrove was born December 2, 1927, the daughter of Arthur and Hannah Grace McCutcheon Samuelson. She died Friday, June 1, 2007 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-nine.

Erma was born near Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. She received her education in country schools near her home, and graduated from Charter Oak High School with the class of 1945. After graduation, she taught country school for a short time. On March 20, 1949, Erma was united in marriage to Delaine Meseck at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. The couple settled on a family farm southeast of Charter Oak. The couple were blessed with the birth of four sons. Later, Erma and Delaine purchased their own land and farmed. On May 25, 1968, Delaine died and Erma remained on the farm. On November 4, 1971, she was united in marriage to Jay Wingrove. The couple resided on her farm. Jay died March 18, 1999, and she continued living on the farm until she entered Eventide Lutheran home in 2007.

In her spare time, she enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, doing word-finds, and watching soap operas, The Price is Right, and Wheel of Fortune. She also enjoyed playing euchre, and loved to sing, especially along with Eddie Arnold, who was one of her favorites. She was an excellent cook and spent time flower and vegetable gardening. She was one of the founders of the Merry Maidens 4-H Club. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak, and their Ladies Aid.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delaine and her husband, Jay; her daughter-in-law, Jenell Meseck; two grandsons, Jeremy and Keith; one sister, Gladys Neddermeyer and her husband, Adolph; and one brother-in-law, Richard Cooper. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Meseck of Charter Oak; Byron Meseck and his wife, Barb of Ricketts; and Dave and Jim Meseck, both of Charter Oak; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn Schiltz and her husband, Mike of Bancroft, Iowa; and Jeanette Cooper of Tulsa, Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2007 at United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. Rev. Kenneth Baughman officiated the services and grave side rites held at the Charter Oak Cemetery in Charter Oak. Organist Marjorie Neddermeyer provided accompaniment for the congregational hymn "Blest Be The Tie That Binds." Soloist Eldon Hardekopf sang the hymns "Amazing Grace," and "How Great Thou Art." Those serving as pallbearers were Melvin Neddermeyer, Patrick Schiltz, Randy Cooper, Tom Schiltz, Alan Neddermeyer, Michael Schiltz, Doug Cooper, Rick Cooper, and Jeff Cooper. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch served by the Methodist Ladies and Staley's Food Service. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of the arrangements.
