Irvin L. Stehr was born April 16, 1933, the son of August and Ada Schultz Stehr. He died Friday, March 30, 2007 at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa at the age of seventy-three.

Irvin was born on his family farm in Sac County near Odebolt, Iowa. He was baptized May 7, 1933 at St. John Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, Kiron, Iowa and later confirmed there on March 30, 1947. He received his education in a rural school near his home and graduated from the Odebolt High School with the class of 1950. After completing his education he farmed with his family until entering the United States Army on July 22, 1953, serving in Germany as an intelligence specialist. After completing his military duties and receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Iowa.

On January 5, 1958, Irvin was united in marriage to Beverlyrae Bartlett at St. John Lutheran Church, Kiron. The couple made their home on the Stehr family farm, where Irvin lived his entire life.

Irvin was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved teaching and passing on new ideas to his family. He enjoyed farming, especially his livestock, planting trees and was very particular about painting his buildings. In his leisure time he enjoyed playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Joanna Leigh Stehr in infancy in 1963 and one sister, Shirley Neumann and her husband, Donald, and his brother-in-law, Jim Ashbrook in 1959. Survivors include his wife, Beverlyrae of Odebolt; two daughters, Jerilyn Ekstrom and her husband, Kenneth of Odebolt and Julie Childers of Odebolt; four grandchildren, Allen, David, Kailey and Ryan; and one sister, Dorothy Schmadeke and her husband, Louis of Arthur; his father-in-law, Clarence Bartlett of Kiron; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt, Iowa. Rev. Albert Buelow officiated the services and grave side rites held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Kiron, Iowa. Organist Phyllis Kies provided accompaniment for soloist Linda Foy as she sang "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," and for the congregational hymns "Abide With Me," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," and the hymn "Ashokan Farewell." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Charles Gunderson, Howard Hustedt, Keith Flink, Pat Reis, Jim Wareham. Eric Martens, Don Roth, and Jim Roth. Those serving as pallbearers were Steven Gunderson, Wayne Wingert, Frank Zimmer, Michael Ashbrook, Kevin Schurke, and Alan Pudenz. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 694 of Arcadia, Iowa. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies of Trinity. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
