Garnet Isabel Rath was born October 27, 1914, the daughter of Edward and Alma Hein Langer. She died Friday, March 16, 2007 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of ninety-two.

Garnet was born on a farm in Denison Township, near Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on May 2, 1915. She received her education at the Denison Community School and graduated in 1931 having included special class for teaching. After completing her education she taught school for two years.

On June 2, 1935, Garnet was united in marriage to Robert Rath at Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison by Rev. William Frese. The couple made their home on the Rath family farm in Washington Township where they remained throughout their lives and were blessed with the birth of two children.

Garnet was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where she was confirmed on December 9, 1962. She was a excellent homemaker and cook. She also enjoyed baking, especially breads, canning and caring for the yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2003, her daughter, Ann Lurene in 1942, one brother, Robert Langer in infancy and two sisters-in-law, Joan and Elaine Langer. Survivors include her son, Jack Rath of Denison; one sister, Jennie Lochmiller and her husband, Donald of Denison; two brothers, John Langer of Jefferson, South Dakota and Ken Langer of Des Moines; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and graveside rites held at Oakland Cemetery, Denison, Iowa. Organist Karen Kahl provided accompaniment for the congregational hymns, "How Great Thou Art," "I'm But a Stranger Here," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Those serving as pallbearers were Larry Carstensen, Jeff Sievertsen, Phil Blum,Duane Hollander, Grant Lochmiller, and Mel Smith. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Dorcas Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of the arrangements.
