Myra Sue McFarland was born August 8, 1958, the daughter of LeRoy and Delores (Lorie) Meseck Bumann. She died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa at the age of forty-eight.

Myra was born in Ida Grove and was baptized in Christ September 21, 1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa and was confirmed there March 26, 1972. She received her education in the Schleswig schools, graduating with the class of 1976. Myra began working at Immanuel Lutheran Pre-School as a teacher. She was later employed at Schleswig Lanes as a waitress. On May 13, 1978, Myra was united in marriage to Dennis McFarland at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The couple made their home on a farm between Schleswig and Ida Grove and were blessed with the birth of two children.

She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter who always put her family first. She had strong faith in her Lord and Savior, which she shared with her family and friends. In addition to raising hogs with her husband, Myra worked as a waitress at Shorty's in Schleswig for several years. She also taught Sunday School at Immanuel and in her spare time, enjoyed cross-stitch taking care of her home and baking, especially at Christmas time. She loved her cats and enjoyed visiting with people whenever she could. For the last two and one-half years, Myra enjoyed living at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Pratt. She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Odebolt; two children, Mindi McKibben and her husband, Gerard of Correctionville, Iowa; and Patrick McFarland and his fiancee, Amy Chitwood of Omaha, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Emma McKibbin of Correctionville; her parents, LeRoy and Lorie Bumann of Schleswig; one sister, Becky Siepker and her husband, Mark of Omaha; four brothers-in-law, Richard McFarland of Mt. Vernon, Washington; David McFarland and his wife, Kim of Ramona, Oklahoma; Jeff Schoenfeld of Blue Grass, Iowa; and Horace Pratt of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Miriam McFarland and her special friend, Lyle of Odebolt; and Naomi Peterson; many special nieces, nephews, and cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the services and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Organist Marlene Hight provided accompaniment for the congregational hymns "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound," "My Faith Looks Trustingly," and "Lift High the Cross." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Jeff Siepker and Roy Johnson. Those serving as pallbearers were Marshall Hancock, Andy Siepker, Bret Siepker, Mike Chitwood, Mike Holland, and Al Niewig. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of the arrangements.
