Helen Emma Fischer was born October 18, 1911, the daughter of Ernest and Matilda Bockelmann Kroll. She died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-five.

Helen was born on a farm near Berne, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in Christ at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. She received her early education in a rural school near her home and later at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Ute.

On February 15, 1930, Helen was united in marriage to Wilfred Fischer at the Lutheran Parsonage in Mapleton, Iowa by the Rev. August Rueber. The couple lived in Monona and Crawford Counties during their lifetime on the farm and were blessed with the birth of two children.

Helen was active in church activities in the Dow City, Ute and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. She and Wilfred enjoyed socializing with friends and playing cards. Helen was known to grow and give away her beautiful African Violets of many colors. Her family remembers her good home cooked meals, especially homemade breads, rice pudding, jelly rolls and ginger cookies. In later years garage sales were her favorite pastime and playing cards with friends. She entered the Reed House in June of 1998 until her move into the Denison Care Center in November of 2002.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Herbert and Fred Kroll. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Mae Maysent and her husband, Charles of Gladstone, Missouri; and Marlene Munson and her husband, Butch of Denison; eight grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; also one sister, Marie Voien of Oceanside, California; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Loeschen officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Mary Kuhlmann provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Amazing Grace", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Those serving as pallbearers were: Kevin McTaggert, Wendele Maysent, Mitch Munson, Scott Maysent, Nick Maysent, Kirk Brown and Tom Dibadj. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
