Delmer Lee Clausen was born April 24, 1935, the son of Herbert and Sylvia Janssen Clausen.

He died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at the Midland Medical Center in Papillion, Neb., at the age of seventy-one.
Delmer was born in Schleswig, Iowa, and was baptized in Christ on June 30, 1935, and confirmed on April 2, 1950, at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. He received his elementary education in a rural school near his home in Soldier Township.

On December 25, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lois Kuhlmann at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children.

For many years Delmer was a dedicated farmer, working first with his father and later in a partnership with his brother Verdell, feeding cattle, hogs and crop farming. Delmer owned and operated the Ricketts Oil and Feed. Prior to retiring in 1999 he worked for Teut's Oil Company in Schleswig, Iowa. Up until his death, he was doing a courier service for Bank Iowa.

Delmer was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where he served as an elder and held various other church offices. He belonged to the Ricketts Community Club.

Delmer loved driving and touring the country side. Among some of his favorite stops would include various events such as the Steam and Antique shows, the Tulip Festival in Orange City and numerous parades. He enjoyed bowling and socializing over coffee, and no one was a stranger to him.

He was also very proud and talked often of his two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois in 1988, infant daughter Tori Lynn; his parents, Herbert and Sylvia; one brother, Verdell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Marie Kuhlmann; sister-in-law, Marj Clausen. He is survived by his son, Kevin of Ricketts, Iowa, daughter, Kelly McCaw, and her husband, Jerry, of Bellevue, Nebraska; two grandchildren: Brett and Christa McCaw; one brother, Ronald Clausen, of Schleswig; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Clausen, of Schleswig, Donna Berka, of Humboldt, Iowa, Betty and her husband Ron Mefferd of Gilbert, Arizona, Carol Schiltz, of Humboldt, Iowa, Lynn and her husband, Morris Holcomb, of Bellevue, Nebraska; brothers-inlaw: Norman Kuhlmann and his wife, Lorraine, of Portland, Oregon; Wayne Kuhlmann, and his wife, Wonne, of Ricketts, Darrell Kuhlmann of Des Moines, Iowa; Dennis Kuhlmann and his wife Kathy, of Hastings, Nebraska; Tom Kuhlmann and his wife, Ruth, of Beaver, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held for Delmer at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa. Reverend Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites. Burial was at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa.

Marlene Lee was the organist and provided the organ accompaniment for the congregation hymns, "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound," and "The Family of God." Honorary pallbearers were Christa McCaw and Brett McCaw. Pallbearers were Richard Spiegel, Mark Spiegel, Chuck Daniels, Jerry McCaw, Lowell Tuet, and Paul Briggle. The family invited everyone to return to the church after the committal service for a luncheon served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
