Freddie Henry Friedrichsen was born August 18, 1925, the son of Henry and Roma Schultz Friedrichsen. He died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 81.

Freddie was born in rural Schleswig, Iowa, and was baptized in Christ on August 7, 1927, and confirmed on March 17, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He received his elementary education in rural Schleswig schools near his home. On July 31, 1949, he was united in marriage to Elaine Jeschke at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children.

He was a very dedicated farmer, enjoying the land and animals. He could repair almost anything. Freddie worked for Farmer's Mutual Hail out of Des Moines for 12 years. He served on many boards: Farmer's Mutual, Crawford County Board of Review, Schleswig School Board, and Morgan Township Cemetery Board for 23 years. He also held various church offices.

He was a very loving and dear husband. He enjoyed his family, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He liked to watch baseball games and enjoyed dancing years ago. He was always ready for a game of cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Carl Jeschke; one brother, Donald Friedrichsen; one sister, Helen Wilke; one brother-in-law, Norman Nielsen. Left to cherish his memories include his wife, Elaine, of Schleswig; two sons: David and his wife, Jac, of Schleswig, and Andrew and his wife, Sylvia, of Amarillo, Texas; two daughters: Inez Voss and her husband, Craig, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Nancy Feauto and her husband, Steve, of Oakland, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters: JoAnn Couch and her husband, Dennis, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Gaylene Steckelberg and her husband, Dennis, of Owatonna, Minnesota; mother-in-law, Frieda Jeschke, of Denison, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Reverend Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites. Burial was at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight was the organist and accompanied the congregation on the hymns, "How Great Thou Art," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "Lift High the Cross." Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Petersen, Burdell Jensen, Don Koch, Bob Beeck, and Virgil Schmidt. Pallbearers were Travis Friedrichsen, Garet Friedrichsen, Tyler Friedrichsen, Matt Friedrichsen, Chad Petersen, Todd Wickens, Brandon Brink, and Don Larson.

The family invited everyone back to the church after the committal service for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements. The family wishes to acknowledge the prayers, memorials, flowers, food, and cards of sympathy, and politely thank each and everyone for their kind considerations.
