Leon Theodore (Pork) Bubke was born July 17, 1952, the son of Irvin and Edyth Bubke. Pork died October 12, 2006 while working in Davis, California at the age of fifty-four.

Pork was born in Battle Creek, Iowa and was baptized and confirmed into Christ at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa. Pork received his education in Schleswig where he graduated in 1970. He then went to the Peace Corp from 1976 to 1978 where he volunteered his agricultural knowledge in Malaysia. Upon returning to the United States, Pork attended Iowa Lakes Community College and obtained an associates degree in Agricultural Management in 1986.

Pork was united in marriage to Colleen Mencke in August of 2001 where they made their home in Denison, Iowa. Pork was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan and a Green Bay Packers fan. Some of his most favorite hobbies were grilling and trying recipes he made up, gardening, and taking care of his plants. He loved to plant and talk to his tomatoes and other plants. He also enjoyed making road trips to Yellow Smoke Park at least once a day.

Pork was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Mike Bubke and David Schulte; one sister, Pam King; and a nephew, Jamey Schulte. Pork is survived by his wife, Colleen of Denison; three children from previous marriages: Alexander of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Joshua of Spencer, Iowa; and Shauna and her husband, Shane of Parker, Colorado; three grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Leroy Bubke of Harlan, Iowa; Barbara Lyman and her husband, Gailen of Chandler, Arizona; Tom Bubke and his wife, Cathy of Schleswig, Iowa; Connie Lee and her husband, Dewey of Charter Oak, Iowa; Terry Schulte and his wife, LaVonne of Westphalia, Iowa; Donald Bubke and his wife, Virginia of Avoca, Iowa; Diann Taylor of Red Oak, Iowa; Roger Bubke and his wife, Alisa of Nemaha, Iowa; Maria Evans of Battle Creek, Michigan; Steven Bubke and his wife, Terri of Omaha, Nebraska; and Timothy Bubke and his wife, Lila of Schleswig, Iowa; his mother and father-in-law, Milton and Vera Morrison of Denison; one brother-in-law, Michael Morrison of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska; two sisters-in-law: Jolene Strom of Denison; and Janet Rogers and her husband, Dennis of Monona, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a very special friend, James Fleming.

Funeral services were held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Reverend David Loeschen officiated the service and grave side rites. Burial was at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Dianne Furne provided the organ accompaniment for the hymnals. The congregation sang, "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound' while Jennifer Lee, Darren Lee, and Dane Lee sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art" as a trio. After the ceremony at the cemetery the family invited everyone back to the church for a luncheon served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Family Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
