Martha Christina Bertha Nahnsen was born March 16, 1909 and adopted by Albert and Friedricke Kemming Huebner on September 23, 1913. She died on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-seven.

Martha was baptized, September 1913 in Hanover Township and confirmed March 25, 1923 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. She received her education in Denison, Iowa.

On December 25, 1927, Martha was united in marriage to Leo T. Nahnsen of Paton, Iowa in Denison, Iowa. The couple farmed for six years in Webster County and then moved to a farm southwest of Schleswig, where Martha helped with all types of farm work. In 1959, they moved to Schleswig and into their new home in 1966.

Martha was a life-long member in the Lutheran Church and a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She was also a Ladies Aid and Choir Member. She loved traveling, fishing, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved flower and vegetable gardening, sewing and crocheting.

In 2000, Martha moved to the Reed House in Denison due to failing health. She spent several months at the Manilla Manor in 2002, returning to Denison and entering the Eventide Lutheran Home in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; granddaughter, Mary Sue Ehler and fifteen brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Survivors include one daughter, Rheta Ehler and her husband, Edward of Parkston, South Dakota; one son, Gordon Nahnsen and his wife, Joan of Schleswig; six grandchildren, Scott Ehler and his wife, Phyllis; Marc Ehler and his wife, Kim; and Jeri Ehler, all of Parkston, South Dakota; Lina Koontz and her husband, Kevin of Dallas, Texas; Neal Nahnsen and his wife, Doris of Schleswig and Lori Olson and her husband, Gene of Montevideo, Minnesota; seven great-grandchildren, Paul, Adam and Jena Nahnsen; Sean, Aaron, Kaycee and Mathew Ehler; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the services and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Organist Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns, Im But a Stranger Here, Be Still, My Soul, and Abide With Me. Those serving as pallbearers were: Neal Nahnsen, Gene Olson, Scott Ehler, Marc Ehler, Lori Olson, and Jeri Ehler. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of the arrangements.
