CELBRATES HIS BIRTHDAY
~
Friends of Carl F. Kuehnle Surprises
and Present Beautiful Gifts
~
Last night Carl F. Kuehnle passed forty-seventh milestone and the event was celebrated in royal style by about twenty-five of his gentlemen friends. The surprise was planned and delightfully carried out by Mrs. A. M. Ainsworth. The “boys” gathered at the Gable home and then proceeded to Mr. Kuehnle’s where they found that the master of the house was up town on business. He was finally located and Mr. McMahon told a fib for the first time in his life, inducing Mr. Kuehnle to hurry home on the plea that there was some men there to see him on some business. It was awfully hard for Mr. McMahon to tell a fib like that. He told us so, but if he had long practice he could not have done it more gracefully. He will learn in time. Mr. Kuehnle finally arrived only to find the parlors full of waiting friends. His breath was fairly taken away when he found what was up. The party soon adjourned to the attic where seven tables at
progressive whist pasted merry hours.

Mrs. Ainsworth and her helpers, Mrs. Maloney, Mrs. McMahon, Mrs. Kahler, Mrs. McConnaughey and Miss Lydia Belle Kuehnle served a delicious two course, luncheon after which Mr. McMahon as spoke man for the party presented Mr. Kuehnle with a very handsome mantle clock, with the alarm set for nine-thirty on week days and twelve on Sundays. Mr. McMahon belied neither his reputation nor his nationality in the eloquent phrases with which he expressed the good wishes of the donors. Mr. Kuehnle replied in speech showing much feeling. He spoke of similar events in the past and how dear the memory of them was too many hearts and he urged a close neighborliness and friendship among all our people. A flashlight picture ended the jolly evening.
