Buells In Iowa

Just several days ago, I became aware of Bebe Buell's book, "Rebel Heart." I purchased it at my local Barnes and Noble and read enough of it to learn that Bebe's father was not involved much in Bebe's childhood. However, the name Buell fascinates me as I am in the midst of researching a multigenerational family book/saga about the Loomis family in America.

Joseph and Mary Loomis arrived in the Connecticut River Valley in 1638 and the Loomis-Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn., sits on the property once owned by Joseph and Mary Loomis (my great x9 grandfather). Across Windsor's Tunxis rivulet, settled another early founder, William Buell, who was a joiner/carpenter and whose chief job was to construct the interior of the first Congregational church of Windsor. The story of the first settlers of ancient Windsor is told in two books: Frank Thistlethwaite's more recent book, "Dorset Pilgrims," and Henry Stiles' "Anient Windsor, Vols I-II."

For the research of my own family, I am relying very heavily on the 1,000-page tome, "The Loomis Family in America," avialable for $80 from the Loomis-Chaffee School. This genealogy tome lists the union of Mary Loomis and Deac./Dr. John Buell, and mentions the huge number of their descendants (13 children, 101 grandchildren). One of the most prominent descendants is Norman Buel Judd, Chicago lawyer and Abraham Lincoln's campaign manager. [For some reason, in Norman Buel Judd's case, the name name Buel is now spelled with but one "L."] Since Bebe Buell's father hails from Iowa, it is not too much of a stretch to think that other family members migrated further west from the Eastern seaboard and from Illinois, as did numerous members of the Loomis family.

My very strong hunch is that Liv Tyler may be descended from William Buell the carpenter, (and possibly Elijah Buell of Clinton, Co., Iowa) but I would be most interested to learn whether or not she is part of the Loomis branch of the family. If you so desire, I would most be happy to e-mail the particulars of the descendants of Mary Loomis and John Buell, as their record is written within the Loomis family genealogy.

If you are aware of the genealogy of Liv Tyler and Bebe Buell, or how I may learn of such, your help will be sincerely appreciated.
