Marian L. Johnston, 94, of Clinton, passed away, Sunday, July 6, 2014 at her home.

Funeral Services will be 2:00pm, Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Prairie Union Cemetery – rural Low Moor. Serving as pallbearers will be Dick Howson, Tom Johnston, Jim Johnston, Brian Cork, Dennis Duerling, and Ryan Veenstra. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Roy Howson and Kevin Cork. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting her obituary at www.snellzornig.com.

Marian Louise Goers was born on May 6, 1920 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Helen (Chatterton) Goers. She grew up on a farm in Folletts, Iowa. She was a 1937 graduate of Clinton High School. She married U.S. Army Captain Carroll A. Johnston on November 11, 1942 in Low Moor. Theirs was a lifetime of love. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2004.

Marian was first employed by Ray Dodge Chevrolet. She later became a secretary at Clinton High School for many years after being a stay-at-home mother. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church – Clinton, the Tri “S” Group, and a past volunteer at Mercy Hospital. She was a trusted and true friend.

Marian was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She valued family above everything else. She was a patriot who loved her country and took pleasure in flying the American flag daily.

Left to cherish her memory are her son: Gene Johnston of West Bend, Wisconsin, and her daughter: Jo (Ed) Burkhalter of Cherokee, Iowa; four grandchildren: Carolyn (Joe) Oxencis, Christine (Nick) Thompson, Elizabeth (David) Furcy, and Lydia Burkhalter; six great-grandchildren: Abigail & Benjamin Furcy, Trevor & Tara Oxencis, and Levi & Isaac Thompson, and her sister: Hannabelle (Manley) Cork of Danville, Illinois.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters.
