The Clinton Herald Thursday July 27, 1972 p. 8 George M. Curtis, 66, 1115 2nd Ave. S., long prominent in Clinton industrial, business and civic affairs, died at 7:45 a.m. today in Jane Lamb Hospital after a long illness. Arrangements are pending in the Snell-Smith Funeral Home. Mr. Curtis, who had served as president and chairman of the board of directors of Curtis Companies, Inc., was a member of a family prominent in Clinton for more than 100 years. He was born Aug. 8, 1905, son of George L. and Frances Wilcox Curtis. He attended Clinton schools, Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, Conn., and was a graduate of Yale University. He was married Oct. 3, 1931, in Peoria, Ill., to Miss Louise Scully. Mr. Curtis was a member and elder of First Presbyterian church, a past president of the YMVA board, Clinton Country Club and Rotary Club. He had served on the Airport Commission, on the City National Bank board, chairman of the United Fund in 1941-42, on the Chamber of Commerce board and the executive committee of the Iowa Manufacturers Assn. At one time he was chairman for Iowa of the Yale Alumni placement service. Mr. Curtis also had been a state director of the National Association of Manufacturers and a 1948 national Republican presidential elector. In 1949, he was named co-chairman of the industrial corporations committed of the Jane Lamb Hospital building fund campaign. In 969 he was appointed to a second term on the board of trustees of Parsons College in Fairfield. He also was a member of Emulation Masonic Lodge, Clinton Consistory and the Chicago Club. Mr. Curtis is survived by three sons, Chase S. Curtis of Northbrook, Ill.; George M. Curtis III, Bozeman, Mont., and Staff Sgt. John L. Curtis, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.; one daughter, Lynn Curtis, Reseda, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs. H.W. Murphy of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. T. Chalmers Curtis, Petosky, Mich. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
