Funeral services for Virgil F. Schnede, 81, Wheatland, were held Dec. 28, 1996 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland, with the Rev. William Kanne officiating. Sandra Horman was the organist and Kathy Patterson sang. Pallbearers were Kenneth and Todd Rohling, Shawn Henning, and Century, Monty and Jay Schnede. Burial was in the Pine Hill cemetery, Wheatland.

Mr. Schnede died Dec. 26 at Genesis West Medical Center in Davenport, following a long illness.

The son of Fred and Lucinda Peckenschnider Schnede, he was born March 3, 1915 in Wheatland. He married Doris Penningroth Feb. 27, 1939 and she died in 1950. He married Verona Hoker Aug. 20, 1951 in Davenport.

Mr. Schnede was a farmer.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland. He enjoyed sports and loved to play cards.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Sheryl (Mrs. Craig) Dexter, Calamus; 4 sons, Jan Schnede, Calamus; Jon Schnede, Remer, Minn.; Paul Hoker, Dixon; and Gary Hoker, Davenport; 3 sisters, Nola Weih and Lois Hein, Bennett, and Nadine Ruggeberg, Tipton; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife and a son, Danny.

Memorials may be made to the Wheatland Community Center and the Wheatland ambulance.
