Funeral services for Evelyn U. VanPelt, 84, DeWitt and formerly of Lowden, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1996 at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland, with the Rev. Harold Koening officiating. Pallbearers will be David, Douglas and Michael Davis, and Danny, Paul and Brad VanPelt. Burial will be in the Massillon cemetery.
Mrs. VanPelt died Sept. 8 at the Jackson County Public hospital in Maquoketa, following an extended illness.
The daughter of Henry and Clara Schneider Knabel, she was born April 11, 1912 in rural Wheatland. She married Keith VanPelt Sept. 16, 1936 in Davenport.
Mrs. VanPelt worked at Oscar Meyer for 5 years and Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for 10 years. She was a nurses aid at the Jackson county hospital for 10 years.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland and a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She loved to quilt and crochet.
Mrs. VanPelt is survived by her husband; 2 daughters, Shirlene Davis, Delmar; and Sue Ann McKee, Dallas, Texas; a son, Gary, Eldridge; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Adeline Mowry, Lowden. She was preceded in death by her parents.
