Robert Dean Maynard

DEWITT - Robert Dean Maynard, 74, of DeWitt, died Friday at Mercy North Hospital, Clinton.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with military rites accorded by Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238 of DeWitt. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert J. Maynard, Dean E. Maynard, Craig A. Pilcher, Mark J. Geerts, Michael P. Maynard, Tate K. Fontenot and Zachary S. Nothdorf.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kira K. Maynard, Seth K. Fontenot, Levi D. Nothdorf, Sean A. Pilcher, Tyler M. Maynard, Preston J. Geerts, Jordan D. Figley and Chloe K. Geerts.

He was born Sept. 22, 1931, in DeWitt to Hosea J. and Mildred A. Bourne Maynard. He married Kay F. Morehead Aug. 15, 1954, in Clinton.

He served in the U.S. Navy from March 6, 1951, to Jan. 12, 1954, aboard the USS Norfolk.

He worked as a lineman for United Telephone Company from 1954 until retirement in 1976.

He was a longtime volunteer fireman with the DeWitt Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife; children, Robert (Dottie) Maynard of DeWitt, Susan (Craig) Pilcher of Central City, Wendy (Mark) Geerts of Cascade and Dean Maynard of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry (Carolyn) Maynard of Ventura, Calif., John (Donna) Maynard of DeWitt and Dennis (Linda) Maynard of Princeton, Iowa; two sisters, Peggy Carber and Edna (Gus) Sager, both of DeWitt; and several nieces and nephews.
