Elmer P. 'Tug' Petersen

WYOMING, Iowa - Elmer P. 'Tug' Petersen, 80, of Wyoming, died Thursday at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Zion American Lutheran Church, Wyoming, with the Rev. Timothy Miller officiating. Burial will be at the Wyoming Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lahey Funeral Home, Wyoming.

He was born May 28, 1925, in Wyoming, to Frederick Peter and Catherine Brodersen Petersen. He married Betty Peck on Feb. 11, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He was educated in country schools near Wyoming and was a 1942 graduate of Wyoming High School.

He farmed with his father and brother and showed draft horses with his brother, Fred, until 1959. He also sold Pioneer Seed Corn for 24 years.

He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church, the Jones County Farm Bureau, where he served as a board member, Jets Committee, Wyoming Housing, Wyoming Fair Board and Lutheran Brotherhood. He was recognized as outstanding young farmer in 1952.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; three daughters, Judy Yockey of Holstein, Jane (Konrad) Kail of Phoenix and Nancy (Scott) Collins of Wyoming; one son, Thomas (Lynda) Petersen of Arlington, Texas; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Virginia Petersen of Anamosa; and two brothers-in-law, Melvin Klein of Stanwood and Don (Carol) Peck of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Memorials may be made to Jackson County Hospice or Zion American Lutheran Church, Wyoming.
