Funeral services for James "Irish" Carroll, 87, Wheatland, were held July 14, 1992 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Harold Koenig officiating. Barbara Wiebel was the organist and Kathy Patterson sang. Pallbearers were Everett Kruckenberg, Robert Hythecker, Ron Dohrmann, Lawrence Riedesel, Dave Buchanan and Don Petersen. Honorary pallbearers were LeRoy Andresen, Wallace Petersen and Darrel Zeller. Burial was in the Pine Hill cemetery, Wheatland.

Mr. Carroll died July 12 at Wheatland Manor.

He was born June 9, 1905 in Chicago, Ill. He married Thelma Petersen Feb. 25, 1934 in Wheatland. She died Jan. 28, 1990.

Mr. Carroll was a truck driver and a former co-owner of the Wheatland Elevator. He had worked at Wheatland Manor for 15 years. He was a former mayor and fire chief in Wheatland.

Mr. Carroll is survived by a sister, Marge Padden, Glenwood, Ill.; a nephew, Tom McNally, Sun City, Ariz. and 3 nieces, Mary Carson, Moline, Ill.; Betty Horstmann, Springfield, Ill. and Rita Wold, Munster, Ind. He was preceded in death by his wife.
