The Clinton Herald Wednesday November 15, 1911 p. 8 The sad news of the death of Miss May Eaton, a former Lyons girl, but for many years a resident at Stanley Hall, Minneapolis, Minn., was received Wednesday morning by her father W.D. Eaton of this city. The end which occurred on Tuesday, was sudden, although not entirely unexpected and came as the result of heart trouble. Miss Evers, the principal of Stanley Hall, wired that she would soon start for Lyons with the body and funeral arrangements will be made here pending further notice as to time. Miss Eaton was the oldest daughter of Mr. W.D. Eaton of this city. She was born in Lyons on Nov. 29, 1860, being nearly 51 years of age at the time of her death. Her early life and education was in Lyons where later at the age of seventeen, she entered the public schools as a teacher. Following this, she taught for a time at Elwood, Ia., returning from there to resume her teaching inLyons. In 1890, Miss Eaton was tendered a position as instructor in the academy at Rogers, Ark., and following this went to Stanley Hall in Minneapolis, Minn., where, for the past twenty years, she has taught continuously, part of the time as associate principal of the institution. The principal, Miss Evers, will be remembered as a former principal of the Lyons schools. Miss Eaton has scores of friends in Lyons to whom the news of her death will come as a great blow. She has always kept up her acquaintance with Lyons friends visiting here quite often during recent years. But few months have elapsed since she was in Lyons visiting and, at that time, seemed in remarkably good health. Mr. Eaton says that, from a letter received Sunday, she appeared to be in the best of health and spirits. In addition to her father, W.D. Eaton, the deceased is survived by one sister, Miss Edith Eaton of Washington, D.C., her step-mother and a step-sister, Mrs. George Kahl, of Boone, Mo. Her mother preceded her in death many years ago.
