MAQUOKETA — Helen L. Schroeder, 82, of Maquoketa, died Monday at the Maquoketa Care Center.

There will be a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, with the Rev. Gerald Gjerde, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.

She was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Xenia, Ill., to Claude O. and Myrtle A. Taylor Carr. She married Ernest L. Schroeder on July 12, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1985.

She worked as a nurse’s aid at the Jackson County Public Hospital from 1959 to 1975. She also was the office manager for her husband’s business, Schroeder Heating and Air Conditioning, from 1959 to 1985.

Survivors include her children, Ralph (Elaine) Schroeder of Hot Springs, Ark., Lowell (Barbara) Schroeder of Maquoketa, Doug (Sandy) Schroeder of Cedar Rapids and Dean Schroeder of Clinton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister-in law, Betty Schroeder of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.

A Helen L. Schroeder Memorial Fund has been established.
