George E. “Dan” Santee

PRINCETON, Iowa — George E. “Dan” Santee, 88, of Princeton, died Saturday Nov. 5, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born July 21, 1917, in Davenport to John and Verlia (Brockelle) Santee. He married Darlene Marie Cole on June 1, 1940, in Clinton. She died in 2002.

During World War II, he served as an infantryman with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. He received numerous citations and awards including the Oak Leaf Cluster and two Purple Hearts.

He worked for many years as an ironworker affiliated with the Ironworker’s Union Local, Rock Island, Ill. He was involved in many Quad-City construction projects including several local hospitals. He retired in 1982.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Rita (Dennis) Siefers and Nancy Griffin, both of LeClaire, Joni (Tony Ayer) Davidson of Bettendorf and Mrs. Carol (Russell) Dunbar of Hampton, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Verlia Rabe of Bettendorf; and one brother, William Santee of Bettendorf.

Memorials may be made to the family or Trinity Pathway Hospice.
